Yesterday I ventured out with my boyfriend to check out the offerings of the local yard sales in my community. We live in a small town and we have come to find this includes a yearly yard sale day to go into our community and see what offerings we can find. We were fortunate enough to get among other things several free items as people were closing up their sales for the day. A punch bowl/salsa and chip tray/ cake holder… An amazing feat of ingenuity for the space-conscious. An old Folgers can full of shells, a small tray for knick-knacks, a pot and cups.. And now for my favorite find. A book by Courtney Peppermill entitled “The Way Back Home”. It’s soft cover and whimsical little front illustration called to me. I found a page and started reading and it seemed perfect for me. I bought it for $1.

Since yesterday I have been going back to it’s pages to seek guidance and direction as I often feel a pain I have no words to name and thoughts that flutter through without solid ground to understand the underlying message, purpose or the lack of such meaning. This book at times was read exactly as it was meant and at other times in conjunction with my own thought and healing process for the experiences and events that have come into my life until this point. She had a way of drifting from topic to topic and from small story to inner depth which matched well with my brain to gently tap into my emotional world I often have difficulty describing without getting so caught up in its current. Much like a successful meditative practice the topics and stories were a guide without lingering too long on any one thing but just long enough to receive loving support through it. I felt some truths tingle through my body and an underlying itch I’ve come to better understand as an avoidance strategy. If you are like me you will feel grateful and healing in reading the pages of this book. It is something that can be picked up and set down with just a few minutes to read or read cover to cover in an afternoon.

I’ve included a link to the book should you want to check it out yourself and start reading.
